What is AMC 10? Why is AMC 10 Important?

Organized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), American Mathematics Competition (AMC) is a series of examinations to evaluate problem-solving skills and mathematical knowledge in middle and high school students. AMC 10 is for students in 10th grade and below and covers the high school curriculum up to 10th grade.

Why Is AMC 10 Important?
 

The AMC 10 is the first in a series of competitions that eventually lead all the way to the International Mathematical Olympiad. Top performers in AMC 10 will be invited to American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME), and the score of AIME and AMC10/12 will be evaluated to see if a student is qualified to attend USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad (USAJMO). This math competition is a great tool that helps students form a passion for math and analytical thinking. The nationally recognized competition is also a standout extracurricular on college applications.

1. May–September: Summer Fast-Track Course

Goal: Build a strong foundation and master the first 15 questions of the AMC10.

✅ Solidify the fundamentals of the four core AMC10 modules: Algebra, Geometry, Number Theory, and Combinatorics

  • Number Theory & Combinatorics: These two modules are the most challenging and heavily weighted on the AMC10, making up a total of 35%. Since they are not covered in school curriculum, the summer fast-track course will focus heavily on strengthening these areas.
  • Algebra & Geometry: These are the core foundational topics, making up 65% of the AMC10. Since they are already covered in school, they will be briefly reviewed in the summer course. However, students will also receive 8 recorded algebra lessons and 3 recorded geometry lessons to help reinforce their foundation.

2. September–October: Fall Intensive Sprint Course

Goal: Push for high scores and conquer the final 10 questions of the AMC10.

✅ Intensive review of all four AMC10 modules, focusing on the most difficult and final questions, helping students tackle the challenging HR (Honor Roll) and DHR (Distinguished Honor Roll) level problems.

✅ Break down trends in past years’ final problems,

✅ Teach advanced thinking strategies and fast-solving techniques,

✅ Strengthen skills through full-length mock exam training.
