What is the EQAO Test?
The EQAO (Education Quality and Accountability Office) is a standardised math and literacy assessment taken by Ontario students in Grade 3, Grade 6, and Grade 9. Results are used to measure student achievement against Ontario curriculum expectations and are reported to parents, schools, and the province.
Students are scored on a four-level scale — with Level 3 considered the provincial standard and Level 4 representing above-average achievement. Many parents use EQAO results as an early indicator of how their child is tracking against curriculum expectations.
When is EQAO 2026?
EQAO assessments typically take place in the spring. Grade 3 and Grade 6 assessments are held in May, and the Grade 9 math assessment runs throughout the school year as an adaptive online test.
What does the EQAO test cover?
The EQAO math assessment covers key Ontario curriculum topics including number sense, algebra, geometry, measurement, and data literacy — varying by grade level.
